Thoughts on the Golden Compass

I am quite curious over the buzz yet another movie is stirring up among Christians.  The Golden Compass is built on a troubling premise, written by a troubling author, agreed.  However, I want to be on the side of engaging discussion and offering truth, not blacklisting and boycotting.  This thoughtful and thorough review offers much food for thought. I am considering seeing this movie to weigh for myself the ideas being propagated.

What are you thinking or saying about this movie? Anything?

I am grateful that my daughter's first comments about this situation were that she is thankful that Mr. Pullman is still alive so that we can pray for him to be saved through Jesus. While we have no desire to read or watch this tale, our biggest concern is not for the Christians who will be discussing this story, but for those who have no direction and who will never recognize the love of Christ in the actions of the true followers. We must take action to show this love in our everyday actions, not just when a controversial book or movie is released.

I agree with anonymous completely... I would also add that my daughter a few years back had quit reading the series after the second book. She said that you are into the book pretty far before you realize the propaganda. I too am interested in seeing this for my self. I have a solid foundation though and would see the lies coming. I want to have an educated opinion. A non-believer or a child my be influenced the wrong way. When my children are interested in reading things that I do not find suitable I always offer that there are so many other really great things to read. When those run out maybe we will consider letting our standard drop. They will not run out. That is how I look at this movie fare.
